Kenya, Mutheka AA, Filter

The Kiandu Factory is part of Mutheka Farmers Cooperative Society in Nyeri
County. Located near Karatina on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya, the
factory works with 427 smallholder farmers growing coffee at 1,700–1,800
metres above sea level in red volcanic loam soils.
Nyeri is widely regarded as one of Kenya’s most celebrated coffee regions,
where high elevation, fertile soils, and cool temperatures contribute to coffees
with pronounced acidity, clarity, and layered fruit character.
Cherries are carefully sorted before pulping, then fermented overnight, washed,
and dried on raised tables for 8–14 days.
This meticulous processing supports even drying and helps preserve the
vibrant, structured profiles typical of the region.
Kiandu’s location near the Kagumo River provides reliable access to fresh water
for processing, further supporting consistency and quality at the factory level.
